President Trump calls for a resignation of INTEL CEO
Trump Turns Up the Heat on Intel’s CEO
Drama in the chip world: President Trump just told Intel’s new boss, Lip-Bu Tan, to quit now, accusing him of being “highly conflicted” over investments in China.
Tan — a US citizen born in Malaysia — took over in March to rescue Intel, which has billions in US government backing to boost local chipmaking. Critics, led by Senator Tom Cotton, point to Tan’s past role at Cadence Design Systems (which pleaded guilty to export violations involving China) and reports that he’s invested $200m+ in Chinese companies, some linked to the military.
Tan says it’s “misinformation,” Intel says it’s fully on Team America, but markets didn’t love the drama — shares dropped 3%. Experts think this might be more about Trump flexing over Intel’s US investment plans (and maybe TSMC partnerships) than just China ties.
Intel’s already cutting jobs and scaling back US manufacturing. Now they’ve got a political storm on top.
